Tai Chi Classes for All Levels
Tai Chi classes with Gary Carbone are held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
For centuries, Tai Chi Chuan has been promoting good health and well being through its daily practice. Relieving stress, improving balance and digestion, regulating and lowering blood pressure, and improved breathing for asthmatics, are just a few of its many health benefits.
Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art practiced for health and relaxation, and as a form of self-defense. Our classes will only address the health, well-being and relaxation aspects. Initially, Tai chi was practiced as a fighting form, emphasizing strength, balance, flexibility and speed. Through time it has evolved into a soft, slow, and gentle form of exercise that can be practiced by people of all ages.
The name comes from Chinese words meaning "great ultimate". It is also known as Tai Chi Chuan, which means "great ultimate fist". The beautiful movements, slow and graceful, have also been called "Shadow Boxing" by the Chinese.
Gary Carbone began learning Tai Chi Chuan and Chinese martial arts in 1986. He studied Chen Style Tai Chi, Tai Chi 42, Hsing-I Chuan. His primary teachers were Jou, Tsung Hwa and Chen, Junhao. He competed in International Open Invitational Hsing-I Competition in Shanxi Province China, 2001 and returned to China 2002 for further training in Hsing-I. Gary teaches classes in Tai Chi 42 (this will be the official style for 2008 Olympics in Beijing). His classes are suitable for all levels. |
